This collaboration is about tension. Using the medium of three-dimensional structures within a web of string in conjunction with the musical layering of two pianos, the tone of the composition will reflect the idea of being strung up and project this emotion, giving the spectator an overwhelmingly apprehensive feeling.
Using materials such as found wood, handmade paper, black string and red light fixtures within the structure, complements the musical component. The arrangement of the installation support the idea of tension, as the sculptures are placed between and around the pianos within a dense web of string encompassing the audience illuminated by crimson light.
OCAD University graduate print students joined forces with musicians from
RCM in Toronto and created one magical evening. Myself and artist
Krystina Plante, worked with the idea of
Tension. By using string, red lights, handmade paper and found objects, we created an installation for the two pianists, Carlos and Minjoo to play within.
The construction of the frames, that will be covered with paper later.
Experimenting with red light. Second project this year involving wiring. I think I like using light.
The first of three of four I constructed out of twigs which I got out of my backyard in Simcoe Ontario. Got to love nature, and it's constant gifts.
Papermaking Studio times. Artists, paper and good tunes. You can not go wrong.
Sheet forming Abaca paper.
Bringing the wooden shape to a paper life.
Working on adhering the handmade Abaca to the wooden frame, formed from found twigs.
Finished orbs... or wasp nests?
Beginning stages of the installation. Up and down ladders ALL day. My legs felt broken. And as Krystina put it, it felt like the movie Entrapment - only, no lasers.
(But so worth it).
Finished installation. Go team awesome.

The entire exhibition/show was recorded, which I will hopefully have the video to upload later this summer.
